Despite the fact that the travel restrictions caused by the corona virus have largely calmed down, the advance booking figures for the summer of 2023 are well below the level before the pandemic. The sometimes high price increases in everyday life are likely to mean that many holidaymakers are still waiting.

A study by the market research institute "Travel Data + Analytics" shows that although significantly more was booked for the winter of 2022/23, it was still booked at short notice, but sales for the summer season are faltering. The winter volume is currently around 19 percent below what it was before the pandemic.

With regard to the cold season, it is evident that many Germans only decided to book their winter holidays in November 2022. The study does not consider this surprising, as many have waited, based on the experiences of previous years, to see whether complicated travel restrictions will be imposed again or not. Despite the real booking boom, the volume is 19 percent below what it was before the pandemic. A decisive reason for this should be that in everyday life the costs have risen considerably and therefore money is no longer so easy for many.

Although many Germans have already booked their summer holidays from November 2022, sales are significantly below the level before the pandemic. It is currently about 35 percent below the pre-crisis level. This is also due to the fact that the trend towards short-term bookings continues and many want to wait and see the political developments, especially in connection with everyday inflation. For tour operators, however, this is becoming an increasing problem, so that one advertising campaign is currently chasing the other in order to be able to land as many bookings as possible.
