In the 2024 summer timetable, Oneworld member American Airlines intends to further expand air traffic between the United States and Europe. In addition to numerous increases, three additional routes are to be added from the Philadelphia hub.
From May 6, 2024, the US airline intends to set course for Nice. From June 5th, 2024 it will go to Naples and on June 6th, 2024 Copenhagen will follow. The above-mentioned new additions, which have been announced from Philadelphia, are to be served as a rule with Boeing 787-9 long-haul aircraft.
An additional European route is also to be offered from the home base in Dallas/Forth Worth. This is the destination Barcelona, which will be served from June 5, 2024 with Boeing 777-200. The carrier has a resumption in its portfolio from Chicago O'Hare on the same day, because it is then supposed to go to Venice (Marco Polo) again seasonally with Boeing 787-8.
In general, American Airlines assumes that demand will continue to rise sharply in the coming years. Therefore one is with the manufacturers Airbus and Boeing in negotiations over the order of further machines. There is a particularly high demand in the area of narrowbodies, which is why there is talk of ordering around 200 machines from the A320neo and B737 Max series.
In traffic between Europe and the US, it is to be expected that American Airlines could connect one or the other secondary European destination with its US hubs. In any case, many European airports are hoping that they will be able to benefit from the A321XLR order, which has been known for a long time, and then get improved flight connections to the USA. So far, American Airlines has only confirmed that this type of machine will “also” be used in transatlantic traffic, but has not yet presented a route network.
