The Covid19 pandemic is causing “special circumstances” this year, both before and during the planned vacation trip. Comprehensive travel preparation is therefore essential: Accurate information about the current entry regulations and the local rules are very important.

There is currently a travel warning for many popular holiday destinations. A carefree vacation is hardly possible because there may be severe restrictions on site and entry into Austria is only possible with a negative PCR test or subsequent self-isolation.

In some holiday destinations, an "online registration" has to be carried out before the start of the journey, controls and health checks must be expected at airports and at many border crossings.

There are also national and regional differences in terms of the requirements for wearing a mask, minimum distance or the rules for carpooling, and violations may result in severe penalties.

The ÖAMTC has the most important provisions on entry modalities and local rules at oeamtc.at/urlaubsservice summarized. There you will also find an overview map showing where tourist trips are currently possible and under what conditions. In addition, the lawyers of the mobility club have collected the most frequently asked questions about travel in times of the Corona crisis, which can be found at: www.oeamtc.at/coronavirus-faq-reiserecht.

This guest post was made by Benjamin Hetzendorfer, Tourism expert of the ÖAMTC.
