Vienna: August with 1,4 million overnight stays, July turnover exceeds 2019

With more than 1,4 million overnight stays, this August reached around 80 percent of what it was in the pre-Corona year 2019.

From January to August 2022, around 7,8 million overnight stays were counted. For the first time since the outbreak of the corona pandemic, net overnight sales in July exceeded their 85,7 level by 2019 percent at EUR 1,6 million. In the period from January to July 2022, accommodation providers in Vienna generated around 387,1 million euros.

This August brought 1.415.000 overnight stays and thus a calculated increase of 53 percent compared to the same month 2021 - this corresponds to 78 percent of the guest overnight stays from August 2019. Between January and August Vienna recorded 7.816.000 overnight stays - this means a statistical increase of 234 percent to the comparable period of the previous year

July: Accommodation turnover above pre-pandemic level for the first time

With 85,7 million euros in net overnight turnover (+184 percent), Vienna’s accommodation providers presented a monthly result in July for the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic, which reached the level of 2019 or even slightly exceeded it at 1,6 percent (data for August are still available not before). In the period from January to July, the companies were able to generate around 387,1 million euros - 350 percent more than in the same period of the previous year.

The average occupancy of the hotel beds in August was 56,1 percent (same month last year: 43,3 percent), that of the rooms around 73 percent (month last year: around 56 percent). Overall, around 66.800 hotel beds were offered in Vienna this August, around 9.700 more beds than in the same month of the previous year.
