Vienna: Only five Ryanair routes - rebuilding planned from March 2021

The Ryanair Group, which includes Lauda Europe and Buzz, has significantly reduced its flight offer from Vienna-Schwechat. Currently, only five destinations, each served twice a week, are offered.

These are the destinations Charleroi, Lisbon, Kiev-Borispil, Palma de Mallorca and London-Stansted. The last-mentioned destination is flown to oneway, because the Austrian government prohibits non-stop passenger flights between the United Kingdom and Austria. This means that the planes with passengers fly from Vienna to Stansted and then empty back to Austria. Obviously there must be a certain demand, because competitors also practice this in exactly the same way.

Buzz and Lauda Europe currently jointly operate ten weekly flight pairs per week. The number mentioned also takes into account the empty flights from Stansted to Vienna. The bottom line is that the Ryanair Group's offer has hit a new low since flight operations resumed at the end of June 2020.

From March 2021, the company plans to resume numerous routes and operate them in the 2021 summer flight schedule. A group spokeswoman told Aviation Direct: “Our current flight schedule and the flight schedule for summer 2021 are shown on our website and remain dependent on government restrictions, consumer demand and market conditions. We will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments if necessary. "
