In the 2023 summer timetable, around 190 destinations are offered by the airlines operating from Vienna-Schwechat. With 124 destinations, Austrian Airlines remains at the top. Competitor Ryanair offers 75 destinations and Wizz Air 39.
The latter company will station a sixth machine in Vienna in mid-June. Competitor Ryanair will be active in the summer of 2023 with 19 aircraft from Austria's largest airport. “People want to travel and there is a lot on offer at Vienna Airport: 190 destinations, new airlines and long-haul routes are increasing again. The available seating capacity will be around 90% of the pre-crisis level in the summer. A high level of service quality is also a priority this summer: we want to continue to be one of the most punctual hubs in Europe, and for this we are hiring 350 additional employees in the passenger-related area. In 2022 we were the third most punctual hub in Europe, and in January we were even the second most punctual hub. We want to defend this position in the future," says Julian Jäger, CEO of Flughafen Wien AG.
The airline Austrian Airlines, which is a subsidiary of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, offers a total of 2023 destinations in summer 124. New additions include Porto, Marseille, Billund, Tivat, Palermo, Vilnus and Tromsø in the portfolio. With around 40 holiday destinations, which are served around 300 times a week, the focus is on the Mediterranean region. Los Angeles and Tokyo, among others, will again be served on long-haul routes.
The competitor Ryanair will increase the offer in the 2023 summer flight schedule by around ten percent compared to the previous year. According to its own information, around 800 circulations per week will be offered. In the area of holiday destinations, there are around 30 destinations in the portfolio. The Vienna base will consist of 19 aircraft operated by Lauda Europe, Buzz and Malta Air. A new addition to the Modlin flights is a connection to Warsaw-Chopin.
The pink low-cost airline will expand its Vienna base to six Airbus A2023neos by mid-June 321. In the 2023 summer flight schedule, 39 destinations in 26 countries are being offered. New destinations include Bilbao, Kuwait City and Hurghada. In summer, Wizz Air also offers routes to Sharm El Sheikh, Chania, Corfu, Zakynthos, Dubrovnik and Split.
From the beginning of May, Vienna Airport will have a new airline partner: Azerbaijan Airlines flies twice a week between the Azerbaijani capital Baku and Vienna. Air Cairo is starting a new route to Marsa Alam and Air Algerie is also returning to a seasonal route to Algiers in Algeria. With Condor, the popular holiday islands of Mallorca, Keta and Rhodes can be reached over the summer.
After a break of almost three years due to the corona pandemic, India's national airline is returning to Vienna: Air India has been flying directly between Vienna and Delhi since February, with the connection being served three times a week.
