The young airline Air Montenegro suffers the first setback, because the Podgorica-Frankfurt route has to be temporarily suspended. The background to this is the fact that Germany has put the Balkan state on the high-risk list.

The vaccination rate is very high in Montenegro, but many travelers in Germany do not have that much of it. The government there relies mainly on the Russian vaccine Sputnik V and Chinese vaccines. These do not make it easier when entering Germany, because the Federal Republic of Germany only recognizes - with a few exceptions - vaccines with EMA approval.

The consequence of this is: Anyone who is vaccinated with Sputnik V, for example, has to go into quarantine when entering Germany. Since Montenegro is classified as a high risk area, only vaccinated people would be exempted. But the vaccine used fails, which creates disadvantages.

At Air Montenegro the circumstance has arisen that demand has collapsed. According to Ex-Yu-Aviation, the Frankfurt route will be operated for the last time on September 13, 2021. The resumption is currently announced for December 1, 2021. The likelihood that this date could hold is high, as many who have families in Montenegro travel home during the Christmas season.
