Deutsche Bahn AG is now asking passengers who want to reserve a seat to pay more. Second class now costs EUR 4,90 and the state railway company charges EUR 5,90 for first class.

So far, many passengers have booked the saver fares in first class because seat reservations were already included. This has been history since Sunday, June 11, 2023, because, as with second class, reservations are no longer included in the first car class in the saver tariffs.

Deutsche Bahn AG is also asking families to pay more, because the so-called family reservations are 80 cents more expensive at 9,80 euros per booking. Seat subscriptions, on the other hand, have been abolished. Previously, 41,40 seat reservations could be purchased for EUR 46, which had to be used within 31 days. According to company information, this product is being discontinued because there was allegedly only very little demand for it.

With regard to seat reservations, the private railway company Westbahn, which operates in Germany between Salzburg and Munich, another way. The company recently announced that all tickets bought online include a reservation at no extra charge.
