The corona pandemic brought many operators of camping sites, but also rental companies of motorhomes and caravans, a sharp increase in sales. The German industry representative expects this trend to continue this year. Another record year is expected.

The increased demand during the summer months of 2020 and 2021 could not fully compensate for the loss of income that the approximately 3.100 German campsites had to record due to the closures caused by the pandemic. However, one got away with the proverbial black eye.

In 2019, the camping industry recorded an all-time high in Germany with 35,8 million overnight stays. For the current year 2022 it is forecast that this value will be exceeded. Demand is said to be very high at the moment and many places are reporting that Easter, Pentecost and midsummer are fully booked.

Figures from the Federal Statistical Office also show that the number of new registrations of motorhomes and mobile homes has risen sharply. In the previous year, 82.017 such vehicles were newly registered in Germany alone. This trend is expected to have continued into 2022. Also included are the fleets of rental companies, some of which have been significantly increased, because renting camping vehicles is becoming more and more popular, as it offers a number of advantages over owning it if you only want to travel with it once a year.
