The airline Royal Air Maroc wants to procure up to 200 commercial aircraft. An official tender was issued for this purpose a few days ago.

The fleet currently consists of 52 machines. The state-owned carrier announced some time ago that it wanted to operate four times as many aircraft by the end of the current decade. A few weeks ago there was speculation that Royal Air Maroc could soon start looking for offers.

Now the time has come, because an official call for proposals was issued on April 18, 2024. Manufacturers such as Boeing, Airbus and Embraer are now expected to submit tasty offers to the Morocco-based aviation company. At the moment it is still completely unclear whether orders will be ordered from just one aircraft manufacturer or divided between different manufacturers. The tender is also a bit vague in other respects, as the exact division between narrow and wide bodies is not clear from it.

Management has repeatedly told local media that there is additional demand for commercial aircraft in both areas. It can therefore be assumed that both widebodies and narrowbodies will be ordered. The exact number of units has not yet been determined, as there is currently talk of “up to” 200 machines. Details will then likely be a matter of negotiation with the manufacturers.

The government of Morocco announced some time ago that it would invest heavily in aviation. On the one hand, this includes a large-scale expansion of the state carrier and, on the other hand, incentives for foreign airlines to take up additional connections. For example, has Ryanair received special permission to operate domestic flights. First and foremost, the government wants to bring additional tourists into the country, but secondarily, connections - both international and domestic - should also improve.
