The Crystal Cruises shipping company has had to stop operations until further notice. The reason for this is that the financial situation is very tense due to the insolvency of the owner, Genting Hong Kong. There will be no deep sea cruises until at least the end of April 2022.
The river trips were even canceled until the end of May 2022. The management of the shipping company is currently examining the continuation under the current conditions, which are not exactly advantageous due to the bankruptcy of the owner. It is currently unclear whether there will be a sale or a closure. However, Crystal Cruises explained that those cruises that are currently running should still be completed
Crystal Symphony should be impounded because of open gas bills
However, something unusual happened when the Crystal Symphony changed course at short notice. The ship was supposed to call at Miami, but there the cruise ship was threatened with confiscation. A US court had ordered this due to open fuel bills. Peninsula Petroleum is demanding around 4,6 million US dollars from the shipping company.
This official measure could be evaded by not entering the sovereign waters of the United States of America. There, a US Marshal would have taken command and led the Crystal Symphony to a port and chained it there. But that didn't happen because the captain changed course and put the ship in the Bahamas instead of the United States.
