It has been discussed for a long time, but now it is more or less fixed: Venice will require entry from summer 2022 from day visitors. Similar to an open-air museum, tourist visitors will in future have to pay for their day stay in the Italian city.

The income should serve to keep the old town in good shape. Appropriate access systems are to be installed in the next few weeks. However, only day visitors who do not spend the night in Venice are asked to pay. For people who sleep in hotels, entry is already covered by the mandatory tax. Crusaders should, however, be asked to pay.

It is currently planned that the entrance fee must be paid via the Internet or alternatively via a smartphone app before the visit. In the main season, ten euros per person per day should be due. Outside of this, three euros must be shelled out for the Venice attempt. Anyone who cannot show proof of payment during a check can face a fine of up to 450 euros.
