Germany puts Spain, Finland, Monaco, Portugal and the USA on the high-risk list

With effect from December 26, 2021, Germany will classify Spain and Portugal, among others, as so-called high-risk areas. Austria, Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina are removed from the list.

The entry on the so-called high-risk list has more of a symbolic meaning for those who have been completely vaccinated and those who have recovered, as they do not have to be in quarantine. Unvaccinated people must both present a negative corona test and go into isolation with the option of free after five days at the latest. Significantly stricter entry regulations apply to so-called virus variant areas.

With effect from December 26, 2021, the following countries will be considered as so-called high-risk areas:

  • Finland
  • Monaco
  • Portugal including the Azores and Madeira
  • Spain including the Balearic and Canary Islands
  • United States of America
  • Cyprus

The following will be removed from the high risk list with effect from December 26, 2021:

  • Belize
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Malaysia
  • Austria
  • Serbia

  • United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland including the Isle of Man as well as all Channel Islands and all British overseas territories (virus variant area since December 20, 2021; high-risk area until December 19, 2021)
