Only a few weeks ago, after a long border closure, Israel reopened to foreign tourists. That is the end of it, because because of the Omikron variant, which first appeared in southern Africa, the borders are being closed again.

For the time being, only fully vaccinated citizens of Israel are allowed to enter. They have to undergo a PCR test at the airport and take another PCR test on the third day after arrival. A quarantine at home must be observed until the results of the second corona test are available.

Non-citizens - with the exception of people residing in Israel who can go into quarantine at home - need a special permit to enter the country again. Subsequently, until the test results are available, they are segregated in quarantine hotels. Unvaccinated Israelis are isolated for seven days and can only leave quarantine if the tests are negative.

The government has already classified numerous states on the African continent as red and in some cases also issued landing bans. The countries in northern Africa are not yet affected.
