The Indian low-cost airline IndiGo Airlines is getting support from Turkey for the winter flight schedule 2022/23. Take three Boeing 777 long-haul aircraft from Turkish Airlines in Wetlease. The competitor SpiceJet is also getting ACMI machines in-house.
Among other things, IndiGo explains that they are expecting a sharp increase in demand and given the fact that the manufacturers are behind the promised schedules, they are making do with wet lease machines. An agreement has been reached with Turkish Airlines for the ACMI deployment of three Boeing 777 widebodies. These are used on routes with high demand. For the time being, the cooperation is limited to the 2022/23 winter timetable period.
Competitor Corendon Airlines was also able to land a wet lease order from India. The financially troubled low-cost airline Spicejet will contract seven Boeing 737s over the winter of 2022/23. These are intended to bridge departures that have occurred in recent months - also for financial reasons. It is currently still unclear which machines will be used in India, since Spicejet officially only speaks of Boeing 737. The Indian low-cost airline did not want to answer the question of whether it was the 800 variant or the Max 8 series.
Corendon itself has May 2022 communicated a long-term wet lease agreement with Maltese Airhub Airlines. The Airbus A18 with the registration 330H-LEON was to fly for the Turkish aviation company for around 9 months. In the meantime, this has been flown out of Antalya and is currently in use for Air Senegal – in the colors of Corendon. Despite repeated reminders, neither Airhub Airlines nor the Turkish client answered questions about the status of the wet lease cooperation in connection with this long-haul aircraft.
